André was born and raised in California, and is deeply influenced by his Christian upbringing. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Writing & Rhetoric from Pepperdine University, where he also assisted in early literacy and tutoring programs with Americorps and the Boys and Girls Club.
Prior to joining the MFA Products of Design program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, he spent several years in marketing in Los Angeles. His roles ranged from managing paid social ad campaigns for small businesses to launching the marketing division of a large B2B manufacturing company.
Upon leaving LA to pursue design full time, he spent a summer interning at the Toronto-based design firm Normative, where he and a partner built a blockchain-based investment tool. Back in New York, he completed his master’s thesis around human experiences in the coming age of autonomous, shared vehicles. In the future, he hopes to explore how human experience can be shaped for the better through empathic design.
André can usually be found training for open-water swims, volunteering in youth mentorship programs, and talking incessantly about exotic cars.
